The Body Hair Transplant (BHT) is becoming popular among men who have a limited supply of hair on their scalp, but have dense body hair on their bodies. Today, many GAGA Clinic patients with a large balding recipient area but with a limited donor area on their scalp, are asking if their body hair can be implanted to their balding scalp.

Our hair transplant experts tell us that the possibility depends on several variables, such as the similarity of the hair between the body and head, the size of the donor area, and the length of the body hair.

Body-hair transplantation does not include beard-to-hair transplantation. As a donor area, the beard is the first choice. Beard to hair transplants have a much higher success rate than rest-of-the-body hair transplants (60 to 95%).

Chest hair is the second-best alternative. Besides having the highest density and success rate, it also produces hair that grows longer after transplantation. The hair on the back, the abdomen, and the arms are generally not considered suitable donor areas.

From patient to patient, the possibility of body hair to head transplantation varies. The hair transplant team will determine which part of the body hair is suitable as a donor area, how many grafts are to be collected successfully, and where to implement the body hair after the consultation.

GAGA Clinic experience indicates that the collected body hair is generally used to increase the density of the hair for the crown area. The hair transplant team believes that body hair is less suitable for restoring the patient’s hairline.

The time needed to see the results of the body to hair transplant is much longer than it is for regular hair transplants where the scalp is used as a donor.
